Meet the Finalists: Domestic Sluttery
>> Wednesday 6 July 2011
Over the next two weeks, we'll be introducing you to the Nom Nom Nom 2011 finalists, so you can get to know them a little better and find out what inspires their culinary efforts. First off it's Gemma and Sian from the Domestic Sluttery team - the fab "home and lifestyle blog for women who have better things to do".
What makes you two the perfect NomNomNom pairing?
We'll be drinking gin. And probably both accidentally dressed in leopard print.
What impact do you think social networks and bloggers have had on the world of cooking and/or restaurant reviewing?
Sian: It's so much easier to discover new places now, but restaurants have to be on the ball 24/7 - bad reviews spread very quickly these days.
Gemma: I love that everyone is a critic now. Even fashion bloggers are posting pics of their food. And like Sian says, no restaurant can afford to drop their standards or it'll be all over twitter within days!
What's your most memorable kitchen disaster?
Sian: Too many to count. Most recently adding an extra egg to a pecan pie and making pecan omelet.
Gemma: Accidentally leaving the oven on for two days. Amazingly, I didn't burn down the flat.
If you were marooned on a desert island, what food couldn't you live without?
Sian: Gin.
Gemma: Cadbury's Double Decker. Huge boxes of 'em.
And finally (aside from bribery), what is the special element that will ensure that your team wins?
Sian: Gin.
Gemma: And nice dresses.
Err.. thanks ladies. I'm now more than slightly worried about what we are letting ourselves in for. However, we were delighted to see that their menu was made up of recipes from the site! Plus, the Domestic Sluttery Ladies have their first book coming out just in time for Christmas later this year. With the Food and Drink section including themes such as "Veggie not Virtuous", we think they could be onto a winner.
