Meet the finalists: Pilluelo and The Catalan Queen
>> Wednesday 7 July 2010
Another pair of NomNomNom finalists share their thoughts. It's Danny aka Food Urchin and Rachel from A Scot in London who together make up Pilluelo and The Catalan Queen (pilluelo is Spanish for urchin or so Google says).
What makes you two the perfect NomNomNom pairing?
We are Ying and Yang. One half brings experience, knowledge and passion, the other improvisation, enthusiasm and humour, it’s a heady frightening mix but it works. And we both luuuurve food.
What impact do you think social networks and bloggers have had on the world of cooking and/or restaurant reviewing?
Everything you want to know or need to know about food and restaurants is at your fingertips. OK that might be an overstatement but bloggers and social networks play a massive part in getting the information out there. If you need to find out about an unusual recipe or whether it’s worth going to a new restaurant recently opened, someone, somewhere on the Internet is likely to have the answer. And most importantly, the answer you get will be personal and unique. At least if you asked us anyway.
Can you tell us about a memorable disaster you’ve had in the kitchen?
Danny has had several but hasn’t been the same since the day he smashed his chicken brick. Rachel has been known to throw too much booze around when cooking but doesn't really count that as a disaster as such.
Which ingredient can you not live without?
Olive oil and garlic.
And finally, what is the special element that will ensure that your team wins?
Cash, cold hard cash
Look out for Tweets from Food Urchin and Rachel on Sunday and we'll let you know if those promised sacks of gold for the judges appear!
